Insignificant Correction: I now recall that those pre-Windows MIDI connections were to device drivers provided by synth manufacturers, not the OS per se. One consults a MIDI synth's MIDI Implementation Chart, but I don't know where to find one for the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, so advice regarding that and any other relevant information on this whole issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks! But it would be nice to know more about why. Of course this problem is easily solved: don't use "Running Status". In "Running Status" mode, note-on and note-off messages without status bytes are ignore. Then today the problem disappeared! So I was wondering if a Windows 10 system update has been made that fixed this problem. Calls to return an error code that is not in the standard list, and sending notes to the MIDI device produces no audio output. I have observed exactly the same symptoms as reported by "Reinhold H", namely code that has worked under Microsoft OS's even earlier than WindowsĪnd up through Windows 7 but fails under Windows 10.
